The first night I used it, I questioned its effectiveness and switched it off for the last 10 minutes of my hunt - BIG MISTAKE. If the mosquitoes aren't around you... don't turn it off!! They're just hiding.I got this for my parents to take with them camping. When the sun starts to go down they love to pay you a visit. I had the opportunity to try two products from the ThermaCell Company: the lantern and their appliance with a light on a recent camping trip. . The lantern and appliance operate the same. Both use a single butane cartridge and a small mat that has repellent on it. The butane heats a metal grill which causes the repellent to vaporize releasing it into the air. The butane cartridge lasts for 12 hours and the mat four hours. The mat color changes from blue to white when empty of repellent. The manufacturer claims a fifteen foot square area that is protected when properly used. . I have tried sprays and citronella candles. We have a large blue stone patio that my wife likes to spend her early morning and late evening hours on. Our yard is surrounded with trees and a small marsh is within 200 yards of our property.
