New Swedish Mil. Mora Knife Reviews
27 of 27 people found the following review helpful It's all in the steel, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: New Swedish Mil. Mora Knife (Misc.) The first thing one notices about this knife as it slips out of the sheath is the integrity of the blade. Sharpened at the factory to a razor edge, it holds this edge a long time before the first sharpening has to occur. This has been what has always impressed me most about Swedish steel, its edge holding ability. I have several Mora knives I use for wood carving and there really is no equal to these knives.Whether you're cutting rope, chopping up vegetables, or any other task around camp, this knife is a tremendous tool. I've used mine for fleshing off the fat on a deerskin; shaving sticks for kindling; cutting through hard plastic items, etc etc. This might be the only tool you really need when you're out there in the woods by yourself. The contoured grip handle fits the hand well, the drop point design is functional and pleasing to the eye. Most highly recommended. Parataxis Extracts: A Field Guide for Iconoclasts... I have extensive experience with Frost Mora blades. I have owned nearly all of them, including the curved carving models.Overall I give Mora blades a 5 star rating with the following understanding: Mora blades are made for CUTTING applications. Mora blades are NOT intended as heavy chopping, battoning, or prying tools!!! If you are looking for a knife to beat on, don't get a Mora. Get a Becker, Kabar or something with real heft and thickness. Mora knifes are brittle for that kind of work. Some folks probably get away with it, but I choose to use another knife for those applications. Mora's wonderful carbon steel edge does however excel at cutting chores. This model I give a 4 star rating because I don't love the handle as much as other wooden, full tang models, but if this knife is available, it is still a great option as a light cutting tool for bushcraft and outdoor use. 50 of 60 people found the following review helpful broken tip, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: New Swedish Mil. Mora Knife (Misc.) This seems to be a good knife. It feels very sturdy and has a good feeling grip. It came with a very very sharp edge. I have only had the knife for a few weeks and do not know if this knife will hold an edge. I think with proper care this knife will be well worth the money.UPDATE I recently used this knife to clean a deer and broke the tip off cutting through the bone. Ill update this review if they replace this knife. UPDATE I Called The Sportsmans Guide and without any questions they are sending me a new knife. |
